About Opengates
Opengates Link LTD is a social enterprise infrastructure company dedicated to bridging the gap between displaced talent and the global digital economy. We address the systemic barriers that exclude refugees and underserved youth from the workforce, specifically the lack of recognized identity verification, limited access to banking, and geographic isolation.
By building a compliant, inclusive ecosystem for payments and professional verification, we enable global enterprises to hire and pay resilient talent securely and efficiently. Our objective is to transition millions of young people from aid dependency to professional financial independence through dignified digital work.
Job Summary
We are seeking a diligent and hands-on Accounting Specialist to support our Operations & Finance division. In this role, you will serve as the backbone of our daily financial activities, ensuring that our books are accurate, our clients are invoiced promptly, and our talent is paid on time.
You will be responsible for end-to-end financial record keeping, from reconciling multi-currency bank accounts to managing statutory tax compliance (PAYE, VAT). This is a vital operational role for a professional who values precision and organization, acting as the primary custodian of the financial data that builds trust with our partners and freelance community.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting
- General Ledger Management: Oversee day-to-day financial entries, ensuring all accounts payable and receivable are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
- Reconciliations: Perform weekly and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and digital wallets, managing multi-currency transactions (KES & USD) to prevent discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet) and operational reports to provide leadership with clear visibility into company performance.
Revenue & Disbursement Management
- Client Invoicing: Manage the end-to-end billing process for enterprise clients, ensuring invoices are issued promptly and following up on collections to maintain healthy cash flow.
- Talent Payouts: Execute bulk disbursement schedules for our freelance community and core staff, ensuring every individual is paid accurately and on time, reflecting our commitment to dignity through work.
- Revenue Tracking: Monitor and reconcile income from various streams, ensuring all commissions and service fees are correctly categorized and accounted for.
Compliance & Audit
- Tax Compliance: Ensure full adherence to Kenyan tax regulations by accurately filing and remitting statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, and NHIF, on or before due dates.
- Audit Readiness: Maintain pristine, organized financial records and documentation to facilitate smooth internal and external audits.
- Internal Controls: Implement and enforce strict financial policies and controls to safeguard company assets and prevent financial irregularities.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Academic Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline is required.
- Professional Qualification: Must be a holder of CPA (K) or ACCA (minimum Part II or Finalist). Full certification is a distinct advantage as we scale towards international audit standards.
Experience & Expertise
- Relevant Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on accounting experience. We value candidates who have worked in startups, fintechs, or digital marketplaces where agility and accuracy are paramount.
- Operational Depth: Proven track record of managing end-to-end accounting cycles, from data entry to financial reporting, without supervision. Experience with multi-currency transactions is highly desirable.
Technical Proficiency
- Software Mastery: Advanced proficiency in cloud-based accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books). You must be comfortable setting up charts of accounts and automating recurring invoices.
- Data Analysis: Strong command of Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs) for financial modeling and reporting.
Key Competencies
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Kenyan tax regime, including VAT, Withholding Tax, and statutory payroll deductions.
- Ethical Stewardship: Unwavering commitment to financial integrity and transparency, essential for maintaining the trust of our donors and freelance community.
Why Join Opengates?
- Purpose-Driven Finance: This is not just about balancing books; it is about building the financial infrastructure for the "hidden workforce." Your work directly enables refugees to receive dignified payments for their skills, often for the first time.
- Innovation at the Frontier: Work at the intersection of fintech and social impact. You will gain exposure to cross-border payment complexities and digital economy compliance in a way few other roles can offer.
- Culture of Excellence: Join a lean, high-performing team that values "Competence with a conscience." We are resilient, we are innovative, and we believe that professionalism is the highest form of advocacy.
